In 2006, No. 1 Nebraska rallied to defeat No. 2 Stanford in front of a record-crowd of 17,209 fans during the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. The Qwest Center Omaha was transformed into a “sea of red” as the Huskers claimed their third national title and boasted 34,222 all-session attendees, a new NCAA Championship record.
The Omaha Sports Commission helped welcome fans by hosting a special youth volleyball clinic prior to the competition and hanging a giant banner outside of the venue. These extra efforts helped boost attendance and secure Omaha as the host for the 2008 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship.
